Manna Freight Systems, Inc. and its seven brands are sharing the love this Christmas season letting one U.S. Army unit know that the people back home care.

The staff at Manna, a Mendota Heights, MN-based freight company, adopted a 15-man infantry unit stationed at an outpost in Afghanistan. CEO Alan J. Meehan said he selected this outfit in particular because, "the front on the war against terrorism has shifted to Afghanistan and I wanted to show our commitment to that effort." Meehan located the unit through the www.AnySoldier.com website, a non-profit organization that connects unit liaisons with civilians in the U.S.

He then invited employees to join him in donating money, food, gifts, and letters for about three weeks prior to their targeted ship date of Dec. 5. "Our staff stepped up in a big way," he said, "and had a lot of fun raising money through raffles and donations." The group raised more than $1,100 which was used to buy food, games, hygiene items, rechargeable flashlights, magazines and books, socks and T-shirts, DVDs and portable DVD players. Christmas cards and hand written notes with messages of support also went into the more than 400 pounds of items donated.

"This is the third year we’ve supported the war effort," Meehan said, "and I’m always proud of the way our employees get involved."

Manna Freight Systems, Inc., was founded in 1991, operates seven separate brands, and serves domestic and international business customers.
