MFS Environmental Statement
We have long held that sound business practices are sound environmental practices.
Practices that reduce waste and repetition also lower costs and improve profits.
We require all our vendors to provide only late model (3 years old or newer) vehicles
for all transport and deliveries to take advantage of the newest technologies in
fuel conservation as well as to protect the company’s image as a trustworthy, professional
corporation. We dispatch all vehicles in the most cost-effective routing possible. We
schedule deliveries while the product is in transit to minimize both unnecessary cross
dock handling and wait or idling time. We were among the very earliest adopters of internet
technology that has vastly reduced the amount of paper consumed in the transportation
industry while improving order entry and product tracking capabilities and reducing costs.
We have consolidated our sales and operational offices down to just three locations
while growing our business at a double digit rate that far exceeds that of the industry over
the past five years. We will continue to take advantage of new technologies as they become
available and cost effective.
In 2008, we were awarded the highest score (1.25) attainable by the Environmental
Protection Agency’s SmartWay™ Transport Partner program. This score was achieved
without any changes made to our existing business model or our processes. It was
due to the sound business practices we insist on and demand of our suppliers. They
deploy newer model equipment that uses less fuel to save money while incidentally
reducing the amount of pollutants discharged into the atmosphere. Smartway provides
a means of measuring these already sound practices.
