MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MN—A Minneapolis based company is helping its own in the flooded regions of Louisiana. Manna Freight Systems’ employees have raised thousands of dollars by donations and in-house fundraisers, said Alan J. Meehan, the company’s owner. All of the money is being sent to those contractors affected by flooding.
“Watching all your worldly possessions get destroyed must be one of the worst feelings you can experience,” Meehan said. “The bright side here is that possessions are replaceable while people are not, and thankfully, none of our employees or the contractors we hire lost loved ones in the floods.”
Meehan said that it employs 11 distribution center associates and customer experience reps, and contracts with several local delivery truck owner operators in Kenner, LA to make home deliveries for customers such as Restoration Hardware, Ethan Allen and Arhaus Furniture. Three of the contractors experienced severe damage to their homes and household possessions.
“I’m always proud of how our employees around the country step up in situations like these,” Meehan said. “Our employees in Chicago, Los Angeles, St. Louis, New Orleans and Minneapolis donated money or participated in our fund raisers.” The company raised more than $4,000 in seven days.
The company sent the funds directly to the contractors so they may offset hotel expenses and begin to rebuild their lives as flood waters recede. In addition to cash the company and its employees donated several TVs and some household furniture as well.
